Biography

Friedrich Augenstein was born in the town of Ispringen near Württemberg on November 23, 1827. He is the son of Johann Augenstein and Johanna Dorothea Kling. The Augenstein family emigrated to the United States in 1833 and eventually settled near Temperanceville in West Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. After coming to the United States, the family soon began using the surname Augustine and Friedrich began using the name Frederick. Frederick married Rebecca Jones of Lower St. Clair Township shortly after 1850 and they had two children - Hannah, who was born in 1855 and Mary who was born in 1859. Frederick died in West Pittsburgh on June 22, 1870.
