From Sherwood's FindAGrave.com Obituary Page:
Sherwood Ager Auld was born in May 1823 in Anson County North Carolina, the son of John Fields Auld and Mary Jackson (formerly Mary Kindrick). As a young boy, he moved with his parents and siblings to Lowndes County Alabama, then Kemper County Mississippi and Claiborne Parish Louisiana before joining his brothers near Farmerville, in Union Parish Louisiana. Sherwood married on 22 August 1848 in Union Parish to Adeline Jane Rossitter. They lived in Union Parish near his brothers in 1850. In August 1851, when their youngest son John was only a few months old, Adeline and Sherwood apparently had some type of disagreement that caused her to leave their home in Union Parish. She refused to return to him even after he repeatedly requested that she do so. On 5 September 1851, Sherwood filed a motion with the Union Parish court to order her to return to their home. The law required that she be allowed three months to return, or the court would issue a writ of separation against her. On that day, the court sent her a summons ordering her
"...to return to the matrimonial domicile of your said husband in said Parish and then to remain with him or a Judgment of separation will be pronounced against you in due course..."
Adeline did not return as ordered, so on November 8th, the court issued a judgment of “separation of bed and board” between Sherwood and Adeline. However, they apparently reconciled soon after this, for they had three more children before Adeline’s death in 1856.
Sherwood's surviving children lived with their grandfather, George Rossitter, in Union Parish Louisiana in 1860. Sherwood had moved south to Alexandria, in Rapides Parish, along with his brother, James A. Auld. Sherwood purchased a farm there, apparently in the portion of Rapides that became Grant Parish a few years later. Sherwood returned to Union Parish by July 1863, and in 1863 or 1864, he remarried to Mary Elizabeth Horton Henry Bullock. Sherwood bought a farm near Downsville in the 1860s, near Mary's family. Sherwood paid the taxes on his farm in 1870, but by 1871, Mary paid the taxes, indicating he died in late 1870 or early 1871.
It is presumed that he is buried in Drew Cemetery, in Ouachita Parish, where Mary and her sons were buried years later, but he has no marker. [1]
