John Hedrick married the widow Catherine (Aumen) Wellman, a neighbor, October 23, 1836. Catherine was a native of Hanover, Germany (Ultenburg). She was born in 1815. We do not know when she came to America. However she lived in Cincinnati at one time where she attended a private school. Catherine and J.F. or F. J. Wellman had one child, Charles (Karl) who died at the age of 20.
John and Catherine lived in a large log house in at Hedrick’s Ford. The house still stands today. Catherine was a fine horsewoman. She loved to ride. One Sunday as she was riding home from church in Ft. Jennings she suffered a stroke and died March 19, 1873 at the age of 58. She was a devout Catholic and is buried in the Ft. Jennings Catholic cemetery, probably under the new roadway. Bodies were not excavated and relocated when the cemetery was enlarged and improved. John Hedrick was a Lutheran. He died November 8, 1884 at the age of 79. He is buried in a small Lutheran (Raabe) Cemetery Southeast of Ft. Jennings.
They had six children:
1. Anna Mary Josephine 2. Melinda 3. William 4. John 5. George 6. Louis
