As this John Austin was born in 1760 (although there is another record that gives 29 Jul 1758), he cannot be the father of a person born in 1772 (father would be just 12 years old). It seems reasonable to disconnect this John Austin as the father of Paul born in 1772 and keep looking for Paul's parents.
A John Asten was born in New Hampshire on July 29, 1760, the son of John Asten and Sarah ____.[1]
The 1790 Census shows John Austin living in Boscawen with one adult male (himself), two under 16 males, and one female (his wife).[2]
I have found no record of his marriage.
According to Buxton:
"John ( 1 ) Austin lived in Pembroke, N. H., and came to Boscawen woods in 1782 with his son Paul, then 11 years old." [3]
