Samuel Auxier was born in Hampshire County, Virginia about 1764. He married Sarah "Sallie" Brown in Culpeper County, Virginia on July 15, 1779. Samuel and Sallie owned 180 acres on the head of Copper Creek in Russell County, Virginia which they sold in 1793 before they began the journey into the Big Sandy Valley of Kentucky. They settled their family in the area of Johnson County, Kentucky known as the Blockhouse Bottom. Samuel died in 1800. Samuel was riding with neighbors when his horse spooked and threw him violently against a tree. He sustained serious chest injuries and died a few days later. Sallie died in April of 1862. Samuel and Sarah had nine children including Mary Barbara Auxier who married George Delong Jr.

According to the book, The Big Sandy Valley, Samuel volunteered for the Revolutionary War when he was 15 years old and served in the last 3 years of the war. [1] The end of the Revolutionary War was in 1783, so Samuel would have been 15 years old in 1780. This makes Samuel's birth year in 1765 or 1764.

He passed away about 1800 and buried at Auxier #1 cemetery Johnson Co. KY [2]

See the pension application of Sarah. It includes testimony by the oldest son of Sarah & Samuel about his burial. It also includes information from the family bible.[3]

According to Samuel and Sarah's oldest son, Nathaniel, who stated that "of late years we have spelt our names auxier".[3]

    • This looks to be a duplicate SAR entry to the one in the sticker (at top). The birth year is a better match, given the information above from the book, The Big Sandy Valley. The SAR needs to be informed about this and a merge of the two entries should be done.

Auxier-157 and Auxier-13 appear to represent the same person because: Duplicate profile. Same person, same wife. There is a conflict on the birth year. Please see sources on Auxier-157 for evidence that this profile might be correct. Also conflict on parents (father). Again, please see the sources on Auxier-157 for reasons that this might be correct. I'd be happy to discuss and help resolve any conflicts.
