Biography

Mary Ann AUXIER was born about 1817. Some researchers state that she was the daughter of Nathaniel Boone AUXIER and Constance BACK, but have provided no valid proof for that statement.

She appears to have married William Martin RICE sometime between 1836, when the last child of William's first wife was born, and the enumeration of the 1850 census record where she was enumerated in William's household.

In the 1850 census record, William appears to be married a second time to a woman named Mary who was 33 Years old.[1]
The birth of their son, Nathaniel Jackson RICE, on 21 May 1852 in Johnson County, Kentucky[2] gives his mother's name as Polly AUXIER. Since Polly is a common nickname for Mary they probably were the same woman.
Death record of their son, Jillson Paine RICE stated that his mother was Mary Ann AUXIER.[3]
