William was born sometime between 1742 and 1744 in Virginia.
By 1777 in Edgecombe Co. NC, acquired large land holdings in what was to become Nash Co., NC with the settlement now known as Aventon. [1][2]
He died in 1811 leaving orphans Elizabeth, Francis, Nancy and William. His other children were James, Thomas, Polly, Benjamin Ward, Rebecca Powell, and Priscilla Kimball. All of William Avent's children married with descendants except William who drowned in Fishing Creek. [3][4][5]
