Biography

Alfred was born in about 1836. He was the son of George and Sarah Avery.

Christening Place: All Saints, Hastings, Sussex, England[1]

UK Census Date 1851: Recorded in the household of Joseph and Maria Job in the Marina, Saint Mary Magdalen, Sussex, England. Aged 15 and single.

Occupation: Watch Maker (Apprentice)

He married Mary Ann Price (daughter of Thomas Price) on 22 August 1859 at St. Mary-The-Virgin Church, Dover, Kent, England[2]

UK Census Date 1861: Living with his wife Mary Ann and infant daughter Clara in Adrian Street, St Mary, Kent, England. Aged 25.

Occupation: Watchmaker & Jeweller

Alfred, along with his wife Mary Ann and daughter Clara emigrated from England to New Zealand. By 1866, Alfred William Avery and family were living in Collingwood Street, Nelson.[3] By 1873, the family had moved to Blenheim. [4]

He passed away in 1913.

AVERY - On the 24th inst., at the Wanganui Hospital, Alfred William Avery aged 77 years. Interment at Marton.
