Thomas Avery, born 1 Jan 1798 at East Lyme, Connecticut, was the seventh child of Elizabeth (Noyes) Avery (1766-1837) and Abraham Avery (1764-1834).

He married 12 Mar 1845 @ East Lyme, Connecticut, Elizabeth Brace Griswold [b. 19 Jun 1823, daughter of Andrew & Lucinda (Johnson) Griswold]; they had 3 children:

1. SARAH ELIZABETH Avery, b. Jan. 10, 1846; died young
2. William Andrew Avery (1847-1877), b. 14 Aug 1847
3. Charles Thomas Avery (1849-1901), b. 8 Dec 1849
