Biography

Andrew Avery, born 19 Jul 1822 at Preston, Connecticut, was the sixth and final child of Dorothy Crary & Amos Avery. He may have carried the middle name of Jackson, uncertain.

He married first, 9 Jan 1851 @ Ledyard, Connecticut, Aseneth Williams (Geer) Avery (1826-) [b. 26 May 1826 @ Ledyard, Connecticut, daughter of Col. Isaac Wheeler Geer & Aseneth Williams; d. 25 Aug 1859 @ Preston, Connecticut]. They had one child, born at Preston:

  1. Delia Avery, b. 15 Jun 1855

After the death of his first wife, Andrew Avery married second, 19 May 1864 @ Milltown, Connecticut, Jane Eliza Hewitt [b. 13 Jul 1836 @ Milltown, Connecticut, daughter of Stanton & Mary (Avery) Hewitt; d. 3 Apr 1876 @ N. Stonington, Connecticut]; they had 3 children, all at North Stonington, Connecticut:

  1. Amos Avery, b. 6 Mar 1868
  2. Oliver Perry Avery, b. 21 Feb 1872
  3. Andrew Hewitt Avery, b. 2 March 1876; died young

After the death of his second wife, Andrew Avery married third, 31 Dec 1879 @ Griswold, Connecticut, Mary Leonard Meech [b. 7 Mar 1843 @ Griswold, Connecticut] they had one child at North Stonington, Connecticut:

  1. Andrew Meech Avery, b. 19 Jun 1884

Andrew Avery was a farmer; selectman at North Stonington for five years; representative to the general assembly, 1875-6; member of St. James' Episcopal Church; a Republican. Though not subject to duty, he sent a substitute to the civil war.

Andrew Avery died 15 Mar 1903 at Norwich, Connecticut.
