Amos Lawrence Avery was born 6 Apr 1831 at Charlemont, Massachusetts, the 6th child (son) of Abner Avery and Dorinda Barnard.
He married 7 Jun 1859 @ Hawley, Massachusetts, Ellen Rosina Carter [b. 23 Nov 1826 @ Hawley, MA, daughter of Rosina (Scott) & Millo Toby Carter; d. 4 Jan 1899 @ Charlemont]; they had one child, born at Hawley:
