Charles was born in 1823. He was the son of James Avison and Mary Blackburn. "26th October. Charles son of James & Mary Avison of Water Royd, clothier"
He married Jane Talbot in 1846. "March 23rd. Charles Avison, age 22 years, batchelor, clothier of Batley. Father: James Avison, clothier...and...Jane Talbot, age 20 years, spinster of Batley. Father: Stephen Talbot, clothier..."
In 1851 Charles & Jane were living at Havercroft, Batley with son Walter. He was a cloth weaver.
In 1861 they were living at Wellington Street, Batley with children Walter, Joseph, Una & Arthur.
Following the death of Jane, he married Leah Ibbetson (nee Auty) in 1870 and became stepfather to four children.
In 1871 James & Leah were living at Stanley Terrace, Batley with children Walter, Joseph, Arthur, Harry & Annie Avison & Hannah, William, Jane & Abraham Ibberson. Also nephew Joel Butterworth.
In 1881 they were living at Park Road, Stanley Terrace with William, Jane, John & Abraham Ibbetson and Annie, Harry & Tom Avison. They had a son together: George Auty Avison.
He passed away in 1888. "March 9. Charles Avison, age 64 years, tea merchant of Park Road"
