She was the sister of Hugh d'Avranches, earl of Chester.[1] Hugh was the son of Richard Goz, vicomte d'Avranches and seigneur de St Sever, and an unknown mother formerly identified on the basis of unsatisfactory evidence as Emma, supposedly a half-sister of William the Conqueror.[1]
She was married to William, count of Eu.[1]
Her husband, William, count of Eu, mistreated her, and when he was punished for participating in the baronial rebellion of 1095, her brother Hugh, staunchly loyal, insisted that William receive the full punishment for treason: blinding and castration.[1]
