Biography

Searcy, born on March 21, 1876 in Leesburg, Alabama, is the son of Augustus Awbrey and Martha Lowe.

He first married Eva Belle Whitman. She passed away on February 28, 1910 in El Paso, Texas – Find A Grave: Memorial #102790749 retrieved October 29, 2021.

Searcy secondly married, on August 13, 1912, Ethel Powell.[1][2]

A newspaper article stated that the marriage took place in the home of Ethel’s parents. They immediately left on a wedding trip through California to Seattle. They returned through Salt Lake City on their way to El Paso. Searcy is described as a young businessman and a member of the Toltec and Country Clubs.[3]

The children of Searcy and Ethel are:[4]

Searcy had a very active career. A 1913 El Paso, Texas business directory listed him as an owner of Awbrey & Semple providing wholesale coal, coke and fuel oil and the direct selling agents for iron and steel manufactures. They also did business as Southwestern Fuel Co.[6]

An article concerning his death lists him as the founder and president of Ankortite Products, Inc of Kansas City, Missouri. Awbrey-544 and Awbrey-282 appear to represent the same person because: Clear duplicate. I will note the discrepancies in birth date and birth location between Whitman source and Find A Grave.

I am researching this and so far there are more questions than answers. Awbrey-282 founded a business in Kansas making an anchor product used in construction. Awbrey-544, based on the newspaper article on spouse's FAG, states he was in the oil and coal business. I will continue researching.

Update: I have found a large number of sources for Searcy which concludes they are the same person who was twice married and lived in several locations. The merge will be completed so that an enlarged Bio can be done with added Sources.

Thanks for initiating the merge.
