Lindy Takes Girl To L. A.; Goes East With Mrs. Mitchell
LOS ANGELES, July 30 — (AP) — Colonel Charles A. Lindbergh, with a woman passenger and a mechanic aboard his plane, was winging toward the grand canyon of Arizona at midday to-day. The famous flier, mysterious as usual about his destinations, left Santa Barbara at 5:30 A.M. with two women on board. He became lost in the fog for three hours before making a landing at an east side airport here. One of the passengers, Miss Betty Awl, 16, of Santa Barbara was left here, while Mrs. John Mitchell, wife of Lindbergh’s host at Santa Barbara, and the mechanic whom the flier picked up here, continued on the flight which was declared by Miss Awl's father in Santa Barbara to be destined for a swing over the Grand Canyon.
