Note: John Awood of King's Stanley may have been a brother or cousin to Richard Awood of Cam and William Awood of King's Stanley. Cam and King's Stanley are 6km apart, Richard's son Walter lived in King's Stanley, and Richard owed money in 1592 to his brother William Awood, brother John minor Awood, and William's son John Awood.
John Awood was born about 1530 (estimated). The church registers begin in 1573/4, so there is no record of most of his children's baptisms and his marriage.
He married Alice (Unknown) probably about 1548. They had (dates and order are estimated guesses from this G2G comment, names are from John's 1571 will,[1] and Alice's 1588 will[2]):
John Awood wrote his will on April 20, 1571.[1] He mentions:
It doesn't look like John names his married daughters in his will, one of which (Katherine) was recently married.
John Awood, yeoman, was buried at King's Stanley on September 26, 1577. [5] His will was entered into court on June 9, 1578.[1]
His wife Alice wrote her will in 1588, names their married daughters Elizabeth Martyns and Johan Hewllynges, and mentions additonally sons 'Symond', 'Robart', and daughter 'Katherine', but doesn't mention James.[2]
A "Johēs A Wood" appears in a 1537 document regarding land at King's Stanley.[6] He may have been the same "Johes a Wood" listed as a copyholder at "Stanley Regis" in 1554.[7]
The John A Wood mentioned there may have been in a previous generation to this profile's John Awood.
