NOTE: There were two Symon Awoods living in King's Stanley in the late 16th century, Symon son of John Awood, and Symon son of William Awood.
Symon was born before 1573/4, which were the start of recorded baptisms at King's Stanley. Based on his marriage in 1587/88, he was probably born about or before 1568. In 1608 he was tallied "about 40" (as opposed to being closer to 20 or over 50).
He was the son of William (mentioned in his will),[1] and probably his wife Elynor.
Symon Awood was a smith at King's Stanley.[2]
Symon married Mary Syforde at King's Stanley on 1587/8-02-03.[3] They had:
On November 8, 1595, William Awood made his will, and bequethed to his son Symond "A Cover".[1] On December 14, John Awood of King's Stanley bequethed to his brother Symon £10, and "also a f[ink blot] of the best yeorves[?] I have and halfe a skore of my best [Eo?]gges", and to the daughter Katherine of Symon a "little roser"[9]
Mary was buried on January 28, 1602/3.[10] Simon married again Welthian Tratman on 20 June 1603 at King's Stanley.[11] They had, probably named after Simon's first wife:
He may have also had:
Symon Awood was listed in 1608 as a smith, and tallied to be "about 40", "lower stature fitt to serve with a Calyver", and "that at the takinge of this viewe, hee was then a trayned soldyer".[2]
Welthian was buried on May 26, 1617.[14] Symon married Katheren Kimberly on November 14, 1619.[15] This may have been Katherine (Howe) Kimberley, who was widowed in 1617, and whose son married Symon's daughter Alice.
There were two Symons in King's Stanley at the time. A Symon was baptized in 1576, and buried in November 1597. There are wills from two branches to consider:
From these dates, it looks like the Simon baptised 1576 was the son of John and Alice, died November 1597, and the other Simon was born before 1573/4 (the start the register), and was living in December 1597.
Considering that a Symon marries in 1587, and children follow every two years (and the eldest named William), including a Catherine (presumably the same Catherine d. Symon s. William mentioned in Symon's brother's December 1597 will), that only one Symon was married at that time in King's Stanley, and that it was Symon son of William. His subsequent marriages and deaths of his wives follow sequentially, again suggesting just one Symon living then,
