Johan Fredrik Axman (later, Frederick John Axman) was born 18 Jul 1890 in Söderhamn parish, Gävleborg, Sweden.[1] He was the son of John Axman and Anna Lindström.[1]
He was organist and choir director of the Bay Ridge Methodist Episcopal Church in Brooklyn, New York.[2] He was a long-time leader of the Swedish Glee Club, Nordic Glee Club, and other Scandinavian singing associations in New York.[3][4]
In 1945, he was awarded a knighthood in the Order of Vasa First Class at the direction of King Gustaf V of Sweden.[5][6][7] He received the medallion from Swedish Consul General Martin Kastengren on 21 Feb 1945.[7]
In 1948, he received the Medallion of the Order of St. Olav at the direction of King Haakon VII of Norway.[6]
He died on 30 Jul 1954 at his home at 59 Bay Ridge Parkway, Brooklyn, NY and was buried at Green-wood Cemetery in Brooklyn.[6][8][9]
