This map link will show Axsom Branch Rd. as well as Deckard Cemetery off of Gilmore Ridge Rd., in this cemetery one will find some Axsom peeps buried there - most likely those who had settled/lived off of Axsom Branch Road.

In the Hoosier National Forest off of Hwy 446 is a place called the Charles C. Deams Wilderness; the Hickory Ridge Fire Tower has an Axsom family connection - one of our great-great (?) uncles had been one of the foresters who built/helped build and man an old log-cabin style fire-watch tower - if I recall correctly the current tower is built on or near where the original structure stood. We used to ride horseback and wagon-train through the woods on the forestry fire-trails to the different parks and campgrounds in the area. Blackwell Horsemens Camp, most local call 16 Corners - the term came from the original log tower which had 16 sides - or so the stories go. It's all posted on the info signs around the areas, it's just been a real long time since I was there.

The Brown-Monroe County line, Axsom Branch Rd., the Monroe Reservoir, and the C.C.D. Wilderness & Hoosier National Forest are all pieces and parts the same area/region, roughly 50-100 square miles-ish. As the crow flies, none of these places are more than 30-50 miles apart from any other.

The 'family lore' is that so many great-great granduncle Axsom was the last person to man the lookout tower; the more accurate stories are on the Forestry historical plaques and markers.

All of this connects to Ulysses in that he and his brother Raymond are either brothers, half-brothers, or 1st cousins to the Axsom Ancestor whose life was connected to the old 16 cornered tower.

I am 99.99999% sure this is one of my ancestors!! Many of the family lived in the area of the Brown & Monroe Co. lines. These folks were back off of a road behind Lake Monroe/Monroe Reservoir called Axsom Branch Road.
