In 1474 there was a grant by Thomas Hexham of North Berkhamstead to John Axtell, the younger, Henry Axtell, and Henry Whyte, of Rysborowes Landes, and Maffelyne in Great Berkhamstead.[1]
In 1484 Henry Axtell was the plaintiff in Common Pleas:[2]
Herts. Henry Axtell versus Stephen Cokke of Norcote Hill, Northchurch (Berkhamstead St Mary), husbandman, for trespass breach of Henry's close and house at Norcote Hill.
In 1470, recorded in Patent Rolls, [3] Henry Axstell was one of the churchwardens of Chesham Bois, Bucks, about five miles from Berkhamsted. It is not known if this is the same person as in this profile or a separate individual.
Henry Axtell or Axstell, of London, draper, is found in the records of London's Livery Companies from 1487 to 1506. [4] He is found in the plea rolls of the Court of Common Pleas from 1480 [5] to 1498. [6] In 1492, the wife of Henry Akstell, of London, draper, was Philippa. [7] In 1496, Henry Axstell, together with George Bustrode, was a churchwarden of St Mary Bothaw, London.[8]
It is uncertain what the relationship is between the Henry Axtell of this profile and Henry Axtell of London. Possibly they are father and son.
