Elbridge, son of William Axtell and Violet Sheldon, was born on 19 Nov 1834 in Chesterfield, Hampshire County, Massachusetts.[1]

On 6 May 1858, Elbridge married Martha A. Crowell in Yarmouth, Barnstable County, Massachusetts.[4]

In the 1870 census Elbert (age 35) was the head of household in Westfield, Hampden, Massachusetts, United States.[6]
In the 1880 census Elbridge (age 44), Printer, was the married head of household in Westfield, Hampden, Massachusetts, United States.[7]
In the 1900 census Elbridge (age 66) was the married father-in-law of Thomas Lloyd in Springfield, Hampden, Massachusetts, United States.[8]
In the 1910 census Elbridge (age 75) was the widowed father-in-law of Thomas H Lloyd in Springfield Ward 8, Hampden, Massachusetts, United States.[9]
Elbridge worked as a printer and held positions at newspapers in Providence and Pawtucket, Rhode Island. He also served as a foreman for 18 years at the Times-News Letter office in Westfield, Massachusetts, and later worked at the Phelps Publishing Co. in Springfield, Massachusetts. After 60 years of active service, at the age of 79, he retired from the printing business, likely making him the oldest printer in the state.[1]
Elbridge passed away on 31 May 1915 at the home of his daughter[1] in Springfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts[10], and was buried at Pine Hill Cemetery, Westfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts.[11]
