George Henry Axton enlisted in the AIF during World War II, Service No VX36145. He enlisted on 4th July 1940 at Royal Park, Victoria. He was promoted to Acting Sergeant on 5th July 1940 and then to Acting Warrant officer Class 1 on 1st September 1941. He embarked on MS Boissevain at Sydney on 29th April 1941 and disembarked at Singapore on 16th May 1941. He died on 7th December 1941 of wounds accidentally received when he was severely burned. He received 2nd and 3rd degree burns to his body and limbs when burning kerosene was thrown through the door of a lamp room. A court of enquiry found it was an accident. [5]
