Claude Kitchen Aycock, (Thursday 16 March 1911 or Monday 16 Jan 1911 – Wednesday 20 July 1949) Age 38
The source documents are in disagreement as to the date of birth. According to the WW2 draft registration, which Claude Kitchen Aycock personally filled out and signed, his birthday is 16 March 1911. However, the death certificate which was filled out by an informant called W. D. Hall, lists his birthday as 16 Jan 1911.
It is unfortunate but true that the last document of one’s life may contain grievous errors, yet few question its validity. This is the case with Claude Kitchen Aycock’s death certificate. To put it bluntly the informant, W.D. Hall, was incompetent filling out the form. One error was the misspelling of the deceased’s name, calling him Cloud K. Aycock. Another mistake was listing Claude’s birthday as 16 Jan 1911. Or was it a mistake? Because of the sloppy spelling of the dead man’s name all the other facts now become debatable points.
