Biography

Ebenezer Ayers was b c1770, perhaps a child of Maj. Ebenezer Ayer and Hannah Plaisted; [1] married at Machias, Maine (probable intentions, Dec 1895), [2] [3] 17 Apr 1796, Sarah "Sally" Scott, [4] [5] [6] born in that part of Machias later set off as East Machias, 23 Aug 1776, the daughter of Samuel Scott and Thankful Smith; [7]

From Dr. Bailey's, Early Baileyville, Maine, p. 52:

Research to date has not resulted in any coordinated data about the Ayres. [8] Ebenezer was one of the first ten [settlers] to come to Baileyville sometime before 1800. At that date, he was between 16 and 26, as was his wife. The only children they had were two girls under 10. No further information has been found.

In 1810, there was an Enoch Ayres in Baileyville, over 45, with no children. In Baileyville in 1850 [is] a Simeon Ayres, born in 1798 (about the time Ebenezer came to Baileyville). He had 10 children, the oldest one named James, who was born in 1828.

Whether these various Ayres constitute a family or not is not known. There were no Ayres in town between 1810 and the 1850 entry.
