Albert Martin Ayers was born on 23 October 1843 in Macon, Bibb County, Georgia. He was the son of Asher Ayers and Mary Ann Cutter.[1]
Albert served in the military during the American Civil War. As a civil engineer, he enlisted as a Sergeant in Company B, 1st Engineers Regiment, Confederate States of America.[2]
Battles Fought Fought on 20 Feb 1864 at Olustee, FL. Fought on 1 May 1864. Fought on 6 Apr 1865 at Sailor's Creek, VA. Fought on 7 Apr 1865 at Farmville, VA.
Was captured and became a prisoner At Point Lookout, VA until after the war ended.
He was asked to come to Alabama by General Ira Foster to build a road up Georgia Mountain. Came, built the road, fell in love with the General's daughter and stayed.
Albert married Nancy Lucinda Crayton Foster (1848-1925) on 30 May 1878 in Marshall County.[3]
He surveyed and built many roads in Marshall County and north Alabama during his career, and was a Judge in Marshall County later in his life.[4]
Albert resided on Georgia Mountain.[5] In 1910, Albert, Nannie, and their son Albert were living in Warrenton, Marshall, Alabama.[6]
Albert passed away at age 78 on 17 October 1922 in Guntersville, Marshall County, Alabama.[1] He was buried at Foster-Ayres Cemetery in Marshall County, Alabama.[7]
