Biography

Frank Ayers was born n Kingston, Ontario, Canada to Francis Ayers and Margaret McBroom in 1866 or 1867.

Frank married for his first wife Maud Frick, daughter of Jacob Alonzo Fick in about 1886. She died in 1902, possibly from a head trauma, source unknown, but more specifically, from exhaustion following surgery that looks like "cranitomy" on the death record, which, if my reading is correct, is performed to treat depressed skull fracture.

He married secondly Jeannie/Jennie Fick, daughter of John Lewis Fick and Julia (Fisher) Fick, and first cousin to Frank's late wife, Maud. He was 44 at the time of the marriage on 30 Sep 1911 in Battle Creek, Michigan.[1] Note that "Ayres" and "Ayers" appear to be interchangeable. There were two marriage records, each spelled differently. Another researcher spelled it "Ayers" when creating Jeannie's FindAGrave Memorial. The name was spelled "Ayers" on tombstones and in the 1920 census which shows Frank and Jenny living in Pontiac City, Oakland, Michigan with their three daughters and Frank's 87-year-old widowed father. The girls and their ages in 1920:

  1. Margaret, 7
  2. Jean Frances, 6
  3. Charlotte, 3 9/12

We also learn that Frank was a contractor who built roads, working on his own account and that he was born in Canada, while his father was born in England, and his mother was born in Ireland. The family had moved first to Canada where Frank was born, and then entered the United States in 1875 (Frank) and 1876 (Francis). Francis died on 20 Dec 1925, in Pontiac, Oakland, Michigan.[2]
