Research Notes

Jane is on over 1400 Ancestry trees but with no sources and there is no entry in the Blackburn register near the date given. This couple may have been based on Richard Blackburne of Scorton Hall, Garstang, Lancashire, and his wife Jane Aynesworth daughter of William (or John) Aynesworth of Newton. They were Catholic recusants so are unlikely to have Anglican baptisms, but they are of a much earlier date than given here. Richard died in 1641 and their grandson Richard Blackburne died in 1686.[1] See discussion of the family in Lancashire registers III, Catholic Record Society.[2] They are not likely to be closely connected to the William Blackburn of Hartshead, Yorkshire, given here as the father of Jane's husband, who was born the year before Richard died.

Middle names were not in use at this time and Jane's husband may have been written as "Richard William" in modern pedigrees because his father was William - Richard was the eldest son of William Blackburne by Elizabeth, daughter of William Kytchin, of Forton.[3]
