Biography

George Ayres was born in 1829 in Middlesex, England, the son of John Ayres, a builder.

In 1851 George was lodging at the "Horse Shoes"public house in Garston in the parish of Watford, Hertfordshire. [1]. IThe eldest daughter of the house Sarah would become his wife. Also in the house that night as visitors were Stephen Hunt and his new wife Mary. George had been a witness at their wedding the previous year. [2]

George married Sarah Vine just two months after the death of her father. They married at the parish church of St Pancras, Middlesex on 26 May 1851. [3]
