John Ayers Jr was born on May 5, 1616, in Newbury, West Berkshire Unitary Authority, Berkshire, England
Johns father was John Ayer Sr. (abt.1582-1657) and his mother was Hannah (Unknown) Ayer (abt.1598-1688)
""In 1645 he was one of Haverhill's thirty-two land owners and in 1650 his property was valued at 80.
His name repeatedly appears in Haverhill records in connection with lands and in 1660 he built a new house.
He was a famous hunter and trapper and his skill and sagacity in woodcraft equaled that of the Indians with whom he was in a constant rivalry that not infrequently amounted to open warfare.
"About 1665 a serious trouble with the natives obliged him in order to save his life to remove secretly and without his family to Connecticut where he settled in what is now known as Ayers Gap, in the vicinity of Franklin, where he lived by himself pursuing his favorite vocation and many traditions of his adventures with Indians and wild beasts form the theme of stories related of him by his posterity.
These tales delineate him as a man of great endurance, heroic fortitude, and striking eccentricities.
"Just before his death his son Joseph joined his father in Connecticut bringing with him his children Joseph and Timothy.
Their descendants still remain in Franklin.

In addition, there is no birth record for a John Ayer in Haverhill in 1633. The earliest Ayer birth recorded in Haverhill is the son of Ayers-390, John, b. 18 March 1647/48.
It was John's son Joseph who removed to Franklin; I can find no evidence that John ever did (despite Ebenezer Treman's story, which also has John dying in 1675 at Brookfield).
In any case, John was of Ipswich in March 1693/94 when he sold to his son Nathaniel, of Haverhill, all his right, title and interests of lands, commonages, etc., and to Robert Swan, Jr., of Haverhill, three hundred acres lying on the north side of the Merrimack River purchased of Jonathan Danforth, wife Mary consenting (Essex Deeds, Vol. XIX; XI).

1. John Ayers (our Ayres-616) married Susannah Symonds, moved from Ipswich to Brookfield Mass in 1672, was killed 8/3/1675 in a skirmish with Indians at Brookfield, Susannah died 1682. https://archive.org/stream/recordofdescenda00byuwhit#page/8/mode/2up
2. John Ayer (our Ayres-686) born 1623, married Sarah Williams 1646 then Mary Woddam 1663, lived in Haverhill MA, then moved to CT because of Indians. This book says he was killed 8/3/1675 in a skirmish with Indians at Brookfield, but why would he be 50 miles from his home in CT? https://books.google.com/books?id=OzlZAAAAMAAJ&dq=inauthor%3A%22Ebenezer%20Mack%20Treman%22&pg=PA1173#v=onepage&q=john%20ayres&f=false
So, it makes sense to have one (Ayres-686) married to Sarah Williams, and the other (Ayres-616) married to Susannah Symonds (Symonds-411). I removed Susannah as the wife on this profile to avoid future confusion like mine.
I also suspect the death info on this record may be incorrect -- I suspect it's only Ayres-616 who died in a skirmish with the Indians on 8/3/1675.
Ayre s 616 and Ayres 686 are not a match.

There are also two Sarahs listed as wives. Can anyone help with this?
