Luísa da Ascenção was born in Madeira, possibly in the parish of Canhas. She was the daughter of Manoel de Azevedo and his wife Izabel da Ascenção.[1]

Luísa married Francisco Gonçalves Chada before their son António Gonçalves Chada was born (circa 1729). Francisco and Luísa were both still living when António married in 1749.[1]
