Biography

When Thomas William Babbitt was born on October 5, 1794, in Gagetown, New Brunswick, Canada, his father, Daniel, was 45 & his mother, Mary, was 46. Thomas William Babbitt married Elizabeth Watson in Gagetown, New Brunswick, Canada, on September 5, 1822, when he was 27 years old. They had 9 children in 20 years.His wife Elizabeth passed away on January 7, 1867, in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada, at the age of 67. They had been married 44 years. He died on September 7, 1875, in Queens, New Brunswick, Canada, having lived a long life of 80 years, & was buried in Upper Gagetown, Queens County, New Brunswick, Canada.

Thomas was born in 1794. He is the son of Daniel Babbitt and Mary Close[1]

On September 5, 1822, he married Elizabeth Watson, of Waterborough, New Brunswick[1] [2] [3], and their children included:

  1. Mary Aiken, born Sept 13, 1826[1] [3], who married Edward Berry and died in 1896[4]
  2. Thomas Emerson, born December 26, 1828[1], who married Charlotte Banks, daughter of James Banks and Elizabeth Copperthwaite, on September 9, 1849[5] [6], Mary (Babbitt) Cowperthwaite in 1900[7], and Annie (Akerley) Clarke in 1904[8]
  3. Phebe Elizabeth, born April 4, 1831, who married Charles Banks, son of James Banks and Elizabeth Copperthwaite September 6, 1848[1] [3]
  4. Emily Jane, born circa 1833[3], who died in 1866[9] [1]
  5. Sophia Anne, born circa 1836[3], who died in 1902, unmarried[10]
  6. Rebecca, born circa 1838[3], who married Samuel Green and died in 1902[11] [1]
  7. Hannah, born circa 1841[3], who married Nelson Sewall and died in 1895[1]
  8. Jacob William, born circa 1843[3], who married Clarinda Amelia Currie and moved west[12] [13] [9]

His wife died in 1867[14]

Thomas W. Babbitt died September 1875, and is buried in the Upper Gagetown Baptist Cemetery[2]

In 1850 a revival of religion occurred in the Baptist Church, Maugerville (Sunbury Co.) where the family was then residing and Emily experienced the renewing grace of God; was baptized by Rev. George F. Miles and became a member of the Baptist Church there. When the family removed to Fredericton in 1852, she joined the Baptist Church there. In the early part of autumn she visited Woodstock (Carleton Co.) in the hope of recruiting her health. She died in Jacksontown, at the residence of her uncle, W. WATSON, Esq; her brother William BABBITT and youngest sister were with her during the last week of her life. (see original)
