Biography

Jonathan Babcock was born about 1757 at Exeter, Rhode Island.[1] He was the son of Jonathan Babcock and Lydia Lee.[1][2]

Jonathan's older siblings were:[2]

  1. Mercy, b. 14 Oct 1750, Exeter
  2. Mary, b. Oct 1751, d. Nov 1751, Exeter
  3. John, d. 1760

Following the death in 1760 of his brother John, Jonathan's father, Jonathan Babcock, moved with his wife and children to Newport, Nova Scotia in 1761. According to Dr. Esther Clark Wright, the family included the following:[3]

"Babcock, Jonathan
26 Nov 1749, m. Lydia Larkin (sic)
Children: Mary, Mary, John, Frederick"

The first Mary would have been Mercy and John was likely Jonathan of this profile. Another sibling named John was born after the family arrived in Nova Scotia.

Jonathan Babcock married Mary Ann Loomer In 1778 at Canning, Cornwallis Parish, Nova Scotia.[1]

According to the Find A Grave record of their son, George Washington Babcock, Jonathan Babcock died in 1828. His wife, Mary (Loomer) Babcock, died in 1838.
