Deacon Joshua Babcock served with Civil Service, Connecticut during the American Revolution.
Joshua was a farmer and a merchant. For about thirty years he was deacon of the Baptist church at Pendleton Hill, Conn. and for about twenty-seven years Justice of the Peace, and by virtue of his office solemnized many marriages. His book of marriages is part of Arnold's Records of Rhode Island, located in Volume 11. Arnold mentions the book was in the library of the Pawcatuck Historical Society at Westerly. Joshua witnessed New England's Dark Day, a time so dark candles were needed midday, thought to have been caused by forest fires.
He was married to Elizabeth Palmer (daughter of John Palmer and Elizabeth) on Sep 3 1772. Elizabeth Palmer (1) was born on Mar 5 1749/50. She died on Nov 7 1818 in Stonington, Conn.
Served in the American Revolution as part of the civil service.
