Charles was born in 1770. He was the son of Colonel Nathan Babcock of Westerly, RI, and his second wife, Elizabeth Brown of Stonington, Conn..

On January 1, 1792, Charles married Tacy Langworthy of Hopkinton, RI, and the couple were early pioneers at Brookfield, New York. The details about 11 children for them are listed in Stephen Babcock's "The Babcock Genealogy." [1]

Note: Charles and his family were part of a Seventh Day Baptist migration from Rhode Island to Brookfield, Madison New York. Charles Babcock of Brookfield is mentioned with respect to Wilcox Church at Westerly's reluctance to release him to be a member of Elder Clarke's Church, the 1st Church of Brookfield at Leonardsville.
