Peleg Badcock was was born November 2, 1750 at New Bedford, Bristol, Massachusetts to John Badcock and his wife Rebekah. [1] Rebekah Badcock had been born a Worden.[2]
A later birth transcription from Dartmouth, Massachusetts (next to New Bedford) notes him as "Peleg Babcock", a spelling that was not used for the Massachusetts line of this family until soon after the Revolutionary War. [3]. Complicating matters some family charts suggest Peleg died in Washington County, Rhode Island, a location where the family used the Babcock spelling during this pre-revolutionary time period. Careful research should be done to confirm or deny Peleg's place of death since there were quite a number of Rhode Island Babcocks named Peleg.
Peleg Badcock of Massachusetts married Mary Chace, at Dartmouth, MA February 3, 1777 according to Dartmouth Town Clerk Records. [4]
Intentions had been published on December 30, 1776 in New Bedford Records. [5]
