Fred was the son of Henry Ruggles Babcock and Mattie Palmer. [1][2] He was raised in St. Paul -Minneapolis. [3] [4] During World War I, Fred served in the Canadian Expeditionary Force, 10th Battalion. He fought in Amiens France to keep the Germans from the railroad depot. [5]

After the War, he married Edythe Caroline Carlson, who was born in Eda, Vërmland, Sweden. [6] Their children were:

Dean F Babcock 1925 - 2021
Charles Henry Babcock 1927–2006

They lived in Minneapolis, Hennepin, Minnesota. [7]
