Jay was born in 1835. He was the son of Samuel Babcock and Elizabeth Grove. He was one and one-half years old when he moved with his parents to Jackson, Michigan. From there, the family moved to St Joseph county. Jay lived on that farm until 1854 when he purchased his current home. It embraces 120 acres of land.[1][2] He married Henrietta Hafer in Sturgis on Nov, 8, 1862. Their children were:
Two more children died in infancy.
Jay passed away in 1908 [3][4]and is buried in Babcock Cemetery, Sturgis, St. Joseph County, Michigan. [5]
