Biography
This profile is part of the Babcock Name Study.
William was the son of Isaac Badcock and Persis Rice.
He married Rachel Ferris. Their children were:
- John Ferris Babcock b. about 1820
- Maria L Babcock Dyer 1821–1885
- Henry A. Babcock 1823–1865
- Charles Edwin Babcock 1831–1890
- William M. Babcock 1835–1916
They lived in Berlin, Knox, Ohio. In 1850 they lived nearby to Alex Menzie's family, an immigrant family from of Scotland. Alex's daughter had married William and Rachel's son John Ferris Babcock about 1840, and that young couple had relocated to Pike in Knox County, Ohio. [1] Caution: A similarly named man, John Ford Babcock in this area married a woman named Mary. They are sometimes conflated and are probably related as cousins or as uncle/nephew. The Mary that John Ford Babcock married was not from Scotland, so starting with the 1850 US censuses which names wives and shows birth location, this is a way to keep the men unconflated.
[2] They moved to Pleasant, Fulton, Illinois before 1860. [3] He married Hannah Jane Robinson on 4 Nov 1873. [4] William died 26 days later. He is buried in Howard Cemetery, Ipava, Fulton, Illinois. [5]
