Biography

Françoise Marie Babin, the 10th child of 11 children, was born on 1 Jan 1681 in Port-Royal, Acadie, Nouvelle-France, daughter of Antoine Babin (1625–abt. 1687) and Marie Mercier (abt. 1645–aft. 1693).^[1][2]

In 1686, at Port Royal, Francoise, aged 5, was living with her parents, Antoine BABIN, aged 55, and Marie MERCIER, aged 40, and her seven siblings: Vincent, aged 21, Marguerite, aged 16, Catherine, aged 14, Rnne [sic], aged 12, Antoine, aged 10, Magdelaine [sic], aged 8, and Jean, aged 2. Although they didn't acquire much land, they did have 1 gun and more livestock over the years, reporting 1-1/2 arpents, 10 cattle, 12 sheep and 8 hogs. ^[3]

Françoise (16) married Jean Pitre (17) (born about 1680 in Port-Royal; son of Jean Pitre and Marie Pesseley) in 1698 in Port-Royal.^[4] Their known children were:

Stephen White does not give a death date; her date of death is set at after the year her last known child is thought to have been born. It could vary since Amand's birth date is also an estimate.

From prior merges:  : Babin-24 had death date as 1780 (100 years old?) in Cobequid, Nova Scotia^[5]. Babin-78 and Babin-79 had 1721 in Port Royal, though no Francoise Babin in any Port Royal record 1702-1755 and no Babin at all on that date.(Bourque-573 18:50, 16 August 2020 (UTC))^[6]
