Biography

Francois Babin is on the Wall of Names at the Acadian Memorial in St. Martinville, Louisiana, Plaque 1 Left. The family was one of the earliest Acadians to emigrate to Louisiana, which was under Spanish rule at that time. Listed with Francois is his spouse Marguerite Breau, two sons Charles Babin and Paul Babin, and 2 orphans Mathurin Babin and Anne Babin.^[1]

Francois Marie Babin was born in Acadia in 1742. He was the eldest son of Antoine Babin and Catherine Landry. He went to Louisiana from Maryland^[2] in February 1768 with his wife Marguerite Helene Breau. Louisiana Catholic Church baptismal and marriage records reveal that Francois Marie and Helene had the following children:

1. Charles Babin (c. 1765)
2. Paul Babin (c.1770)
3. Francois Babin (1774) ^[3]
4. Marguerite Isabelle Babin (1777)^[4]
5. Marie Madeleine Babin

He died in 1796. Burial services were held at St. Gabriel Catholic Church on October 21, 1796.^[5]
