Ignace Babin is on the Wall of Names at the Acadian Memorial in St. Martinville, Louisiana, Plaque 1 Left. Listed with him are his wife Marguerite Breau and their son Paul. [1]
Ignace Babin, son of Pierre Babin and Marie Landry, was born in Acadie about 1742. He is found on the census of 7 July 1763 in Port Tobacco, Charles, Maryland, where he and his family had been deported by the British in 1755. [2] By 27 July 1767, he had emigrated from Maryland to New Orleans, Louisiana, and was being given settlement assistance by the Spanish government who then owned Louisiana.[3] In August 1767, he is settled on 6 arpents of land in St. Gabriel, Louisiana with his wife and one son.[4]
Ignace died and was buried 13 November 1791 at St. Gabriel Cemetery, present-day Iberville Parish. [7]
Research Notes
The inclusion of Ignace as a brother of Jean Baptiste Babin on the presented evidence was open to question. A record found should settle the matter.
The records of Spanish court proceedings for the Baton Rouge district during their time of rule over the St. Gabriel area and much of what is now southeast Louisiana were translated and transcribed as a WPA project beginning in 1936. They were divided into 18 volumes and microfilmed as the Spanish West Florida Records, 1782-1810. In Volume 2, p. 428, there is document of a land sale from "Jean Baptiste Babin and Elizabeth Leblanc." In the description of the parcel is the phrase, "...bounding on one side with the lands of Ignace Babin, my brother...."
I'm aware of two sets of these translated microfilmed documents. One is in the Special Collections room of the Baton Rouge Main Library. The other is at the Louisiana State Archives at the Secretary of State office building in Baton Rouge.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Ignace by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Ignace:

In summary: 1. Ignace needs to be removed from Marguerite Boudrot and son Paul and merged with Ignace Babin (1742-1791). 2. Marguerite Boudrot needs to be merged with Marguerite Boudrot (abt.1734-bef.1763)
Is it okay if I proceed with this?
