Ignace Babin is on the Wall of Names at the Acadian Memorial in St. Martinville, Louisiana, Plaque 1 Left. Listed with him are his wife Marguerite Breau and their son Paul. [1]
Ignace Babin, son of Pierre Babin and Marie Landry, was born in Acadie about 1742. He is found on the census of 7 July 1763 in Port Tobacco, Charles, Maryland, where he and his family had been deported by the British in 1755. [2] By 27 July 1767, he had emigrated from Maryland to New Orleans, Louisiana, and was being given settlement assistance by the Spanish government who then owned Louisiana.[3] In August 1767, the family, including Paul is settled on 6 arpents of land in St. Gabriel, Louisiana with his wife and one son.[4]
