Hi David,

I wrote to you recently as part of the England Project's six-monthly check-in with our project members. I haven't heard back from you. I hope you are well.

If you could please drop me a quick note to confirm whether you are still interested in the project and wish to remain an active member, that would be very helpful.

If we do not hear from you within the next 2 weeks, we will assume you are no longer active in the England Project and remove you from our list of project members. You would be most welcome to re-apply to join the project at a later time by signing-up on the project’s G2G welcome post.

Many thanks!

Elizabeth, England Project Leader

Hi Elizabeth

My apologies. I am thinking of applying for pre-1500 certification. This is why i joined the project initially . Ian Speed was my trainer and is willing to support my application. I’ve just been dithering about applying as life has been hectic . So in brief, I think I want to apply now for pre-1500 certification. If my claim is rejected and they tell me I need to do more service on a Project team, then I’ll get back in touch. Many thanks David

David,

Please could you say where you found the picture of Sir James Parker Vice-Chancellor that you photo'd and posted here in February. We had asked Lincoln's Inn if they had a picture of him and they couln't find one. Many thanks. Bernard.

Hi Bernard, good to hear from you. The picture of Sir James was in a collection of photos assembled by my grandfather, Bernard Babington Smith. Bernard was the great grandson of Sir James Parker. He was an academic who spent many years of his life writing a family history of his forebears ('Here be Forebears'), which included a chapter on the Parkers as well as a reprint of the portrait in question. It was privately published by his wife: H E Babington Smith in 1996.

I dug out the photo you refer to (from his original research notes) and it has the following written on the back by Bernard's wife (also an academic, and a co-author of Here Be Forebears); "Sir James Parker, Robed as Vice-Chancellor'. Unfortunately 'Here Be Forebears' does not cite where the actual portrait is so I can't give you more provenance than this. However, I do have 2 extra portrait sketches of Sir James as a young man (which I will upload to wikitree); one of which matches in style a portrait of his wife, Mary Babington (currently on wikitree). The similarity between the earlier sketches and the portrait is clear. So I would say its a definite match.

Incidentally what is your interest in Sir James. Are you a cousin?

best wishes, David

David, thank you for your comprehensive reply. It is my wife Juliet (née Roxburgh) who is the relation: Sir James is her direct great-great-grandfather.

I have mentioned to my brother-in-law at Lincoln's Inn that the pictures which you have found can be seen here in WikiTree, should they be interested.

Another family member is researching the line and is assembling information about relevant members of Parker, Sandbach, Macaulay, Robertson and Rainy families, and found the picture you had posted here.

Best wishes, Bernard.

Hi David!

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Pre-1700 ancestors can be shared by many descendants, so collaboration is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

The England Project may fit your research focus. If not, use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find other possibilities. Review the project page to learn about resources and guidelines as well as how to collaborate with the project members.

Have questions? Ask in the comments section of my profile.

Remember to cite reliable sources in pre-1700 profiles you manage, or edit. (See: Pre-1700 Reliable Sources).
