Children: Aarjen (Nov 16 1729), Pieter (Nov 11 1731 - June 18 1749), Cornelis (Dec 20 1733 - Jan 16 1734), Cornelis (Jan 2 1735, married Tetje Pieters Boeder), Trijntje (Sept 16 1736, married Jan Joost Visker), Teunis (Dec 7 1738, married Trijntje Cornelis), Jan (1741, married Marijtje Krijns), Marij (Aug 14 1743, married Claas Cornelis Backer & Willem Cornelisz Rol), Jacob (1746, died Aug 19 1746).
Cornelis appears in a few notary documents under Man and Manje. It's easy to confuse him with his son Cornelis. He was a kaagschipper (the captain of a small sailboat, probably mostly used for transporting and fishing) who lived in de Boede. Most of the land he owned was north of the Kleingouw.
It's very difficult to find all the records of Cornelis since he keeps changing names. At the time of their marriage in 1729, Cornelis went by Cornelis Cornelisse Mantjes. In some of his children's records, he has the last name Man. His son Pieter's death record calls him Ceesmans. Sometimes he's called Cornelis, other times Cees or Kees.
Cornelis Man / Manje / 't Manje buried several people: Pieter Bullooper (probably his brother-in-law) in 1735, Meijnouw Maartens in 1742, Nanne Pietersz Schoenmaker in 1745 and Cornelis Ariensz (his father) in 1753. Cornelis Manje was buried by Pieter Laan in 1756.
His mother's will makes it clear that Cornelis took his mother’s last name instead of his father’s (something many Andijk genealogists also agree with). This was actually quite common in families where a last name was about to pass out of existence, and in this case there are no records for children taking the last name of Man, Manjes or Mantjes between 1677 and 1729. Since there were several other Cornelis Backers in Andijk, and since Trijn's father's name was also Cornelis, they named their son after her father as Cornelis Manjes. [1]
In their Boedelscheiding dated Dec 30 1756, Cornelis Manje and Dieuw Cornelis are listed together along with their children "of age" Aarjen and Cornelis and their "minderjarige" (under 18) children Teunis, Trijn, Jan and Marij. The voogden (guardians) of the last 4 are also listed: Pieter Reindersz Kooiman, Jacob Pietersz Mantel and Gerrit Bulloper. Aarjen receives the old house in de Boede just east of where the other children live, land of 96 roeden by the Kleingouw, 130 roeden by the Kleingouw, a sailship (kaag) with its equipment and grave # 30 in the church of Andijk. Cornelis received land of 145 roeden on the Kleingouw and 100 roeden also on the Kleingouw. The voogden received for the underage children the new house on the Noorderdijk in de Boede, a "rietsohr" (I think a marsh or rush) north of the Kleingouw touching the Reynderrootssloot, land of 174 roeden, 56 roeden, 136 roeden and 150 roeden in different places north of the Kleingouw, including one by the Mosseltuin, and grave # 31 in the church. The children could go through the furniture, clothes, etc. together to decide who gets what. Aarjen, Cornelis and the guardians all signed it with signatures.
