When Lucy Bacon was born on April 11, 1744, in Lunenburg, Virginia, her father, Lydall, was 27, and her mother, Mary, was 24. She married Charles Allen and they had at least ten children together; Charles died in 1785. She then married Charles H. Smith (c.1740-1811). She died in 1826 in Laurens, South Carolina, having lived a long life of 82 years.
