Biography

Soldier, Barrister and Parson, he served in the Bengal Horse Artillery 1835-8, was Chaplain in Malta 1846-8, and Canon of Gibraltar 1847-8. Curate of All Souls, St Marylebone, and Rector of Kingsworthy, near Winchester, Hampshire, from 1852-72. He was a sketchbook artist who made "beautiful sketchbooks" of his 'grand tour' travels and published works on India.

Thomas Bacon was born on 11 August 1813. He was baptised on 8 September 1813 at St James's Church, Paddington, London.[1]

Marriages and family

He married 1ly probably in India: she died without issue, probably in India.

On 9 April 1861 he married 2ly Harriet Sophia Prinsep, neé Aubert, widow of James Prinsep, and eldest daughter of the late Lt-Col Aubert of the Bengal Army, without children.

On the 9th inst, at St James's, Maidenhead Thicket, by the Rev John Bacon, brother of the bridegroom, the Rev Thomas Bacon, Rector of Kingsworthy, near Winchester, to Harriet Sophia, widow of the late James Prinsep Esq, of Calcutta, and eldest daughter of the late Lt-Col Aubert of the Bengal Army.

Later years

His wife died in 1874.

Death and burial

He died on 19 February 1892.

Legacy

His "beautiful sketchbooks of his 'grand tour' travels" were inherited by descent to John Bury.
