The 1870 US Census finds John in Union Township, Delaware, Iowa. He is with M Isabelle, John H, Charles J, and young Mary.[3]
Next he married Harriet Hunt in 1878. They had one son:[4]

John was a carpenter most of his life.
John died on 14 May 1913 in Hopkinton, Delaware, Iowa, United States of a lung tumor and was buried at the Buck Creek Cemetery, Delaware County, Iowa on 16 May 1913.[5][6]
