1912: Barbara and her sister Flora were aboard the RMS Carpathia with their children on a trip home to visit relatives in Hungary when the ship picked up survivors from the ill-fated voyage of the RMS Titanic. The Carpathia returned to New York with the survivors and the two sisters disembarked, too shaken by the experience to ever attempt another transatlantic crossing. Barbara and Flora were interviewed by the local newspaper upon returning to Toledo. See a transcript of the article here: "Toledo Women on Carpathia Give Up Trip."
