David was born before 1600, possibly 1586.
From William S. Appleton's 1865 book 'The family of Badcock of Massachusetts[1]
"I have no doubt that the family in Massachusetts was founded by David Badcock, who was a member of the Church of Dorchester 1640, and was probably father of George Badcock and Robert Badcock, both of Milton, and possibly father of James Badcock, who was born about 1612, was of Newport, E. I., 1642, and of Westerly, R. I., 1661. Margaret, wife of Henry Leland of Sherborn, seems to have been sister of George and Robert Badcock, who are first found about 1650 in that part of Dorchester, which in 1662 was incorporated as Milton."
The Will of Henry Layland as seen in "The Leland Magazine" [2]provides partial proof of Appleton's theory. In the Will Henry, a major land owner [3], makes ample provision for Margaret's comfort, but also assigns the role of overseer (executor?) to "my loving brother Robert Badcock." (brother meaning brother-in-law) George Badcock's Will contains a similar line regarding Robert: "Further it is my will that my Deare and Loving Brother Robert Badcock and my Neighbour Joseph Belcher shalt bee overseers that this my will bee fullfilled." So through the Wills it is fair to conclude Robert, Margaret and George are siblings.
Given these siblings, Margaret was probably born in England as were her brothers, rather than in Massachusetts as her Find A Grave Memorial asserts. All three Badcock siblings would likely have been the children of David Badcock who is first seen in Dorchester, Massachusetts Colony in the 1640 Church rolls. These relations are probable based on the small number of Badcocks seen in the early Massachusetts records. Given the place and time period in which they lived, their last name would have been spelled Badcock or Badcocke.
Concerning Appleton's question about James Badcocke of Rhode Island, in early 2023 Y-DNA research was used to establish that the Rhode Island Babcocks descended from James Badcocke are genetically distinct from the Milton/Dorchester Massachusetts Babcock/Badcocks, so James was NOT the sibling of George, Robert, and Margaret. [4]
In 2017 Tristan Tolman, a professional genealogist was hired by John Hedman to explore the roots of the Badcocks of Massachusetts and to clean up the Family Search notations for George Badcock. The 18 page sourced report provides a few avenues for further research and cautions about this family being effected by the Hinman/Welles Fraud. [5]
Temple Ordinance Data [6] at Family Search lists George Badcock's extended family and names of George Badcock's parents as James and Mary Badcock. Why? Source for some of the data is NEGR Vol 19, pp. 215-217 and History of Milton page 118 for Enoch.
Generally it is assumed George Badcock's father was named David Badcock as W.S. Appleton and Stephen Babcock state that this David was in attendance at Dorchester Church in 1640, stated as if they had seen proof of the claim. But in modern times no one so far can find a primary source for this assertion and a David Badcock's attendance does not seem to be in the existing early records of the Dorchester Church or in the town records anywhere in the area.
If anyone can help find a primary record for David Badcock who resided in Dorchester around 1640 please post.

It's unlikely that David ever used the name Babcock in his lifetime but it is included here for searching purposes.

I feel confident that Appleton really saw some document about this, since he was hunting to root out the Hinman/Welles fallacies. I just cannot figure out what he saw.
Unfortunately, David Badcock/Badcocke/Badcoke/Badcoe is not in the transcribed "Records of the First Church at Dorchester, in New England, 1636-1734" Published by First Church (Dorchester, Boston, Mass.) in 1891 but with old record starting about 1636. (https://archive.org/details/recordsoffirstch00firs/page/256/mode/2up?q=badcock).
James Savage in "A genealogical dictionary of the first settlers of New England" (https://archive.org/details/genealogicaldic01savarich/page/86/mode/2up?q=babcock) also asserts David Badcock was in Dorchester in 1640. But why? Anybody know?
