Calvin Littleberry Bagwell was known as Litteberry Bagwell, or just "Berry" Bagwell[1]. He was born in 1788 in Wake County, North Carolina. He was the son of Nathan Bunt Bagwell and Sarah Mainor[2].
He married Mary Clara Walker on April 20, 1816, in Wake County, North Carolina[3].
He and Mary farmed in the St. Mary's (Auburn) area of Wake County, North Carolina. They had six children: William Dosie Bagwell, Green Berry Bagwell, Mary Willie Bagwell, Andrew Jackson "Jack" Bagwell, Mason Bagwell, and Needham Bryant Bagwell[4]. Mary passed away in 1864.
He married Sarah Mitchell on November 24, 1864, in Wake County, North Carolina[5].
The Bagwell farm mostly raised cotton, and they owned five slaves. After the Civil War, it became too expensive to keep them, and they were released. There are unmarked graves in the Bagwell Cemetery in Garner, North Carolina, where the slaves are buried.[6]. The farm, known as the Berry Bagwell farm (located on Rock Quarry Road), was later purchased by Berry's grandson, Henry Watkins Miller Bagwell, in 1903[7].
He passed away in 1884 in Wake County, North Carolina. He is buried at the Bagwell Cemetery, located in Garner, North Carolina[8].
